Defining Your "More"

Wednesday, January 27, 7:30 p.m.

Calkins Road Wegman's Café

745 Calkins Road (Henrietta)

Join us for casual meeting of discussion – or, really, a chance to just get out of the house and relax while enjoying something delightful from Wegman's Café!  A spin-off of our popular "Mommy Guilt" meeting, we will pick up where we left off.   What exactly is this funny looking "& More" thing on our national logo?  What does it mean?  Who did you used to be before you had children?  When did you lose your connection with her?  Did you ever consider the fact that, when you are giving yourself 100% to taking care of your family....YOU are a member of that family...and YOU deserve to be taken care of and fulfilled, too?  But how do you take time for "me" time when there is more to do in a day than there are hours of the day to get it done?  And once you carve out this precious time, what the heck are you going to DO with it?

For more information, see the Event Calendar. Register there so we'll know you're coming, or just show up and surprise us.

Social Networking and Defining Your Online Persona

Wednesday, August 26, 2009, 7:30 pm

Panera Bread Cafe (12 Corners in Brighton)

Have you joined the social networking craze? Do you interact with friends online more than in person? If so, you're not alone. According to a recent BabyCenter survey, 63% of moms used Facebook, Twitter and blogs this year, a whopping increase from 11% in 2006.

Whether you're an experienced "Tweeter," a Facebook novice, or wondering what all the fuss is about, stop by Panera Bread for a fun discussion. We'll talk about how to get started, how to find your public/private comfort zone, share tips and tricks, and much more. Laptops and smartphones are optional. We can also brainstorm ideas for using social media sites to get the word out about our great organization. After all, online connections are great, but it's fun to meet up in the real world, too. Hope to see you there!

Wednesday, June 24, 2009, 7:30 pm

Highland Hospital Staff Dining Room

Doors open at 7 pm for extra socializing

Would you like to get fit and/or lose weight but can't find the time or money to join a gym or hire a personal trainer?  Join us to learn how to get a gym-quality workout in the privacy (and convenience) of your own home.  You CAN find time to fit this balanced routine into your busy schedule.  Learn the basics of fitness as well as how to set up an exercise rotation to get maximum results in minimum time.  Even if you can only spare :20 a day, you WILL see results that will keep you motivated.  Exercise CAN be fun and is an excellent way to carve out some "me time" even for moms who only have :10 min to spare here and there; a couple of short blocks throughout the day can add up to amazing results.

Mediation / Conflict Resolution

Tuesday, June 9, 2009, 7:30 pm

Conflict happens. It’s a normal part of life.  Most of the time, conflicts are resolved, but for the times when they aren’t, mediation can be a wonderful tool. Becoming a parent increases the potential for conflict.  Whether it is a conflict with a spouse, your parents, your in-laws, a teenage son or daughter, a sibling you haven’t spoken to in years, a mediator can help. Mediators negotiate differences as a neutral facilitator to create sustainable solutions for couples and individual clients seeking to resolve difficult disputes and obtain equitable agreements. Please join me in welcoming BJ Mann as a guest speaker. BJ is an advanced-practitioner family mediator who helps people find solutions that are meaningful, lasting, and timely.  She will speak to our group about conflict resolution, what mediation is, and how it can be helpful. BJ was the founder and first president of the Rochester Women's Network,  and she received its Lifetime Achievement Award in 1998. BJ teaches courses on "Conflict Management," “Non Violent Communication," "Mediation," as well as "How To Get a Divorce."  She is also an instructor for the Assisting Children Through Transition program, a joint project of the Supreme and Family Court System.  Please join us for this very important and informational meeting.  Even if you currently do not think you have a reason to need a mediator, chances are that someday you or someone you know will.
